Pennies From Heaven

The picture doesn't do it justice, but this unusual cloud formation is known as 'Biscuit' cloud, and often carries hailstone at the leading edge of Tornados. This batch passed safely over, which is good since hailstone round here can be the size of cantalope melons. I was interested to learn that smaller hail is measured in 'coinage' denominations i.e. pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters before moving on to balls (golf ball, tennis ball...) and ultimately melons!
