"A One Way Ticket to Nowhere..."

If you are at all familiar with the Broadway musical 'The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas' (Carol Hall 1978), then you will appreciate the significance of taking "The Bus From Amarillo". The musical was made into a film starring Dolly Parton and Burt Reynolds, but they dropped the Amarillo song, which is a shame since it is a poignant and dramatic part of the story...

In the musical, the main character, Miss Mona, laments about her past and reflects on the journey she took to get her to where she has ended up - running a sleazy Bordello,

"...and the bus from Amarillo raced a train along the track, but I never looked behind me cos I wasn't coming back... I had a one-way ticket to Nowhere, I was finally travelling free, I had a one-way ticket to go where anything was possible for me...

Well, a trip to the Oklahoma panhandle meant I had to get a one-way ticket to Springfield, Co. However, I needed to get off the bus at a small town that wasnt a scheduled stop. After begging the driver to slow down just enough so I could step off the bus he kindly let me disembark, in the middle of Nowhere, literally!

No-Mans Land is famous for producing some of the countries best beef jerky, and while i waited for my lift i was able to visit with the ownwers and sample the wares.
